I have lots of bubbles that appear on my love rock everyday. No bubbles anywhere else and I have no bubbles entering the tank from the return lines. I have been blowing them off with a baster but as soon as the halides turn on they come right back. I thought that it might be part of the nitrification process but this has been going on for weeks now. When I swapped tanks I used all new water made with RO/DI from a brand new unit. I have checked NH4, NO2 and NO3. All were undetectable. I do have a bit of hair algae left from the old tank and I am going to order some snails this weekend to help the old clean up crew.
Any ideas what might be going on?

Disregard that corny joke.
Anyways, as far as the bubbles, I used to get it also, but not that much. I noticed it more in the stagnant areas of the tank. I do not know the cause. I have since added my second and third tunze stream to the tank. The bubbles dos not have the opportunity to grab ahold of the live or "love" rock anymore.

It's denitrification. Any algea in those areas at all ? More than likely it will go away in a few months.

I don't have a bunch of flow, but the bubbles appear even where it hits the LR. I would like to upgrade my closed loop pump one day, but not right now and I don't have any spare gold bricks laying around to buy a couple of Tunze Streams. That is kind of what I thought. I am getting some more snails from http://www.sevenseasonline.com next week. I was going to get them from http://www.saltyzoo.com but the shipping on 50 astrea and 50 cerith snails was going to be $45 and the snails were $50. Have you checked your RO TDS, suprisingly my cartridges failed early and I am guessing that was making my Cyano algea from an earlier post. I have since changed my cartridges and my TDS is back down to zero.

What kind/brand of TDS meter are you using? Mine sucks. I tried to calibrate but it still gives me different reading from zero to 100 on the same cup of water. Anyways, I would just put in a spare powerhead(s) and see if it helps. Besides being an eyesore, I honestly do not think the bubbles meaning anything negative is happenning to your water chemistry. But I can be wrong.
