First post, first tank
Just picked up a used 29 Biocube today and started the setup on it. Still need about 5 more gallons of water, but the LFS ran out. I'll be back tomorrow for more and anothe piece or two of live rock to finish the setup. I was told about this site while at the LFS, so figured I would register and say hello! Looking forward to having some fun! I've never has a salt tank, so I've been reading for weeks and figured it was time to just do it!
I'll post up pics tomorrow once I get the water topped off!

. I like the setup.

Agreed. Especially the anemone. Shame on the LFS.jt3069 wrote:welcome
thats alot of livestock for a uncycled tank

Re: First post, first tank
Well, I've learned a lot since I started this up. The tank was cycled when stuff went in, but you are right about the nem! Hindsight being 20/20, I should have waited. The good part is that the nem has done great and has doubled in size in the past month! It has also started hosting my clowns too! Here are some updated pics.

Still looking for a cure for the green algae on the top or the rocks. Its not a hair algae and hasn't grown any in the past week or two....just kind of staying the way you see it. Any thoughts?

Careful mixing the anemones. You'll find that the first species you got, Heteractis crispa, gets very, very large by comparison. It will grow to take up a good chunk of your system, in fact. Mine took up about half the length of my old 75g (which was a standard 48").

Doesn't that mean I HAVE to upgrade to a larger system??Amphiprion wrote:Careful mixing the anemones. Seriously, though....that was another learning curve for me! Although, we do plan on going to at least a 75 if not 125 this winter sometime and moving it over to that.

Pics look nice Congrats to you

Re: First post, first tank
What do ya'll think about the green algae on the rocks? Its not a hair algae, and really isn't slimey either. It has been like that for a couple plus weeks, not better and no worse. Today I am running with zero lights and we'll see how it looks tomorrow.

We've been having a lot of fun with this tank watching it grow and evolve! Here is a pic from last week or so....
The cyano on the sandbed has finally gone away that you see in this pic. New tank syndrome is leaving us!

The anemone looks like it is doing really well. What are you feeding it and how often?

Frozen krill a couple times a week, and it loves it! My RBTA split into 3 a few weeks ago too and all 3 have done great, doubled in size, and are getting some great colors back (they bleached pretty bad after splitting).Amphiprion wrote:The anemone looks like it is doing really well. Just picked up a 75g complete setup from a fellow forum member. I may upgrade the tank to a 90 too. Either way, we'll have a sweet new setup here shortly.
