Purple/Blue Monti

Post by mykpoz »

Brandon said there might be a few people running around with some frags of this.

If so, can someone let me know?

Not to be a smart alec, but can you narrow that down a little? I mean there are quite a few purple/blueish Montiporas. Is it a plating type, encrusting type, or branching?

that was going around here before. Andy was selling frags. Dave got a few in recently and have a large chunck in his show tank, but the reds aren't as red and the purple is even a deeper purple. I'm sure you have seen it.

I have an encrusting one, but it's not a "superman". Then again....they cost quite a bit more. :) I could probably get a little frag off of it if you want. I had a huge purple plating Montipora, before the Nudibranchs got it.

I have a Tyree Idaho Grape undata, but it's too small yet. I'm just getting some nice Montiporas again.

You know I have an encrusting monti that has been known to turn blue. When I got it it had a blueish purple tint to it but it wasn't that dominant. When Sue was holding my coral it started to turn a blue/purple on her and I got it back and it is now brown. I'm not sure what it takes to get it blue or purple. I know it won't be the same as the one in the picture you have here but I know it can become that color. You would have to ask Sue what she did to make it change color. Maybe the first key is having a stable tank.

Maybe, I think lighting temps have alot to do with it as well. The one I have is coloring up pretty well now, it was healthy but more brown. Kind of like yours.

My tank does fine with the blues, but not so good on greens.

Lighting temps seem to make a tremendous difference. I have some LPS that looked like nothing under 10K MH but when I put them in my little 29 with PC 10 and PC actinic they showed amazing improvement.

I also noticed that a lot of the commercial vendors are shooting their pics under 14K MH. They say that they aren't photoshopping them but can you really be sure?
