Upgrading Tank

Post by armouredcat »

As some of you know I currently have a 30 Gallon tank with over 2 years of being established. The tank is pretty scratched up and I am thinking about replacing it and upgrading to a bigger tank.

My concerns are for my current livestock. I dont want to loose them, but I am not sure how to approach starting a new tank to transfer them too.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the most "stress free" way to move to a new tank?

Thanks!

We did Amy's 29 gallon a few years ago will very little ill effects. You will probably get an algae burst right after which is normal since you disturb the sand bed. The best thing is to probably have 5 gallons of mixed salt water ready since you will lose a little and not want to keep the water toward the bottom, it will be nice and dirty.

Just have plenty of buckets for rock and livestock and all of the hardware ready for the new tank. Set aside a few hours to do it and all will be well.

Do I just dig out the existing sand and transplant it into the new tank?

Yes. Use a flexible plastic cup, like a mardi gras cup.
