how can i get my sand (substrate) to stay clean & white?

Get a diamond watchman goby...or any other sand sifting goby. My diamond goby keeps my sand stirred around so much that it never grows that yucky brown algae junk.

Another thing to do is get some nars. snails... they do a good job stiring up the sand bed...

A sand sifting starfish would be good too. You hardly ever see them because they are always buried in the sand but they are good at keeping the sand bed stirred and aerated. I had one when I first got my tank but he died because I didn't acclimate him correctly. Now that I know to use the drip method I need to get another one.
