10g diy sump

Well I finally got around to building a more efficient sump for my 29g. I went to the local hardware store and bought 2 6" pieces of glass that were 9 7/8 in width and one 4" (on top). I did have to grind the glass down with a rotary tool that has a diamond bit, because the guy cut the glass a little too big for it to fit. I also bought some aquarium sealant to attach the glass to the sides of the aquarium. I haven't got around to attaching the light to something yet, so yeah I know it looks like crap.

10g = $free
Glass = $4.50
Aquarium Sealant = $5.79
Total spent = $10.96 (tax added)

How do you get the legs and feet to show up on that skimmer ?? Is that a sticker

. I do like the paint job on the back of the sump, it kinda hides the wires and what not. I was thinking of using the same color scheme on the back of my 29g. But before I do that, what paint did you use to paint the back of the 10g?

Yeah the feet & leg sticker came with the skimmer to make it more unique than other skimmers out there. But sometimes I wonder why the damn thing moves so much

maybe you can help me with a thread i currently have going in equipment. i also have a 29 gallon tank with a refugium. is that a mag pump i see? im having heat problems and think that i have narrowed it down to the mag 7 i have. are you having similar problems? what size pump do you have?

Yes, that is a mag 5. I do not have heat problems because I have an open top tank. Also my sump creates a cascade effect including the skimmer which cools the water to some degree. I also have a hotel unit air conditioner in the room with the tank which it keeps it nice and cool. The highest temp reading I have gotten is 84, with the lowest being 82. You shouldn't have a problem with a mag 7 because mags are known to not create as much heat as other pumps. Remember the more flow the better for a tank, but you don't want so much flow that it creates a sandstorm inside your tank.

funny you should mention those numbers. i cant get my tank below 82 degrees which i read was higher than optimal. and with the lights on all day, i get close to 84. what do you have in your tank?

Well, when you think about it 82-84 is not that bad. I have had this for over 7 months with no ill effects on my corals and fish. Also think about what is the temeperature of the ocean is? I have seen it as high as 87 degrees in some places.

ive been reading and seeing that 82-84 isnt as bad as i thought. i read somewhere that 80 was optimal when i first set up the tank. im not so worried anymore. do you have pics of the tank? id like to see how other 29's are set up and what they can hold.
