I think both...first kill then take over the spot...spread like weeds...

In my experience, the Xenia are immune to most other coral stings (except Galaxea), but I have not seen any evidence of Xenia stinging other corals either.

I have had zero experience with Xenia bothering anything. In fact i have had Xenia start from the bottom of my tank and go to the top, then turn right and keep going to the end. The Xenia would go in between corals and plant itself. It is pretty cool looking, but it did not lay on any other corals or cause any ill effects. Now i have had things like Colt sting Xenia and cause it to shrivel.

Yeah but it still looks cool, it fills in those nice holes that other corals leave. Nothing like complete coral coverage

well my purple xenia frag is being very odd lately.. Either its really uphappy with the rock i stuck it too or something in my tank is eating it but it looks horrible right now...all but a few parts of it are sticking out and the few that are...are curled up tight. My pink xenia are as healthy as can be and my green star polyps are opening up new buds every day...but that chunk of purple xenia is looking horrible!!!
