After talking quite a few people...I have decided to buy an Aquaclear 500 to convert to a HOB refuge for my 18g reef. Everyone I talked to said it was really easy and it added lots of flow to the tank. Its has a little over 1 1/4 gallon capacity. It has an adjustable flow from 167-500gph. Also available for it is the surface skimmer attachment. I ordered it from Marine Depot for $44 shipped. I called around locally and the best deal I got was $55. everyone else wanted $79!!!!!!
Have any of you every tried one of these for a nano tank?
Aqua Clear 500 on the way!

My main reasons for adding this this thing...I have an overflow box that was meant for a much bigger tank!!! But I had to have a way to skim the crap off of the surface...Plus it uses a ~500pgh pump. Problem is...the sump takes up way too much room and is noisy. I also wanna refuge...but the area under my stand is too cramped and I dont have my tank drilled. The ac500 is 13" x 9" x 6" (4" is behind the tank). They are very easily converted to a refuge...and you can even use all of the parts that come with it as materials(with exception of the divider between the motor and the place where the refuge part will go. I will keep you guys updated as I get everything going.
