Solicitation on MBRK

Post by Xster »

What are everyone thoughts on a vendor directly "soliciting" on MBRK.com??? Just kind of curious.

Kevin, delete if you feel if this thread is not necessary in any shape or form.

Xster if you would not have said something I would have. I would love to see more vendor participation on this board. But when a vendor signs up and in the very same day post numerous 'ads' for their products and services, it may be a little over the top. Personally I wouldn't mind a little solicitation, let me know when you're having a blowout sale or something. But just be cool about it don't abuse it... just my thoughts.

Right now I see it as good advertising for a new member who just so works for a lfs who has a questionable reputation. In the near future I can see "commercial posts" as something where they have a product on sale for members each month and posting pictures of new livestock for us to know what they are carrying so that we don't have to travel for something that we don't like. These and possibly others would be considered a healthy relationship between the club and vendors.

What kinds of posts would you like to see from vendors (I am sure that Lee would like to know)?

Agree to both sides.... I kinda feel it is a little pushy to go in to our buy and sell section and post to every looking for section that they have it and also go in and kinda bash B&B -

But I also understand that they are trying to let people know what they have and so on...

If they want to post an ad type post in buy and sell- it isn't much different than us posting when someone find out a vendor is having a sale.... So I can see both sides so to speak.

I agree 100 percent with Brandon, it is too apparent what is ging on. It would take alot for me to delete a post though Xster, quite alot. Unless it gets into a personal threatening issue i doubt post will ever be deleted.

I agree totally when everyone that have posted so far. I just do not want mbrk.com to be swayed be any ONE vendor and/or LFS.

I personally have nothing against Peter Vo's Custom Reefs, I do shop there once in a while. Between my tank and the hotel's 210 G, I have spent at least $1500 in there, and that is a low estimate.

But I hate to see if any vendor use this forum as a selling site. If a vendor or LFS has any thoughts on how to help or promote the hobby further in this area, then great. If there are discounts or special offers for members, then great.

But it all boils down to what mbrk.com stands for.

Just my thoughts, John

The first post where they stated they were now open was welcome and I think in line. Also any post on answers to red slime, adjusting reactors, sand beds, ect also welcome. Posting a link to their site in the vender section also welcome. If their customers has their website link and a sale is posted there it will show up here in a natural way. Many times SWF ads have shown up here by members or Progresive and B&B sales have shown up here but by customers not from B&B or Rich. Also many good and bad post have shown up here on all venders as they should since everyone has their own opinons but these are from normal chain of events not a slam or spam from the vender. This keeps this board honest and open minded. Also I get tired of clearing the new messages of post like I have that over and over again from a vender. If B&B, Progresive, and Custom Reefs all did this I would spend all my time just clearing new post. It is like getting spammed. JMO.

I wouldn't mind getting post from venders on special deals and new critters that might be of interest but I don't want them trying to compete and undercut each other on this web site. No LFS is a like and they all have something different so they can not be treated all equal. One of my favorite things about having a reef tank is going to all the LFS. I'm not going to give all my business to just one anyway. I do like reading feedback from the member on how they were treated and what kind of deals good or bad that they got at the different shops.

I pretty much agree with all of you. I do have a few "suggestions": :)

1. No advertising should be allowed in the general post (as explained by Terry). (i.e. CustumReefs said "We have that!")

2. Why not have a vender thread that post their specials and events. Limit the # of post to xx per week/month to keep it within reason. Let us know when rare items/shipments come in. Let us request special items. :)

3. How about vender advertising? Like just a single banner or something. It can pay for the forum hosting & some beer or we could have the venders donate corals for door prices each meeting in exchange for advertising. - this one is just thinking out loud, I'm not sure if I like this idea :?

4. We're a small group. If Peter, Richard, or any of the others were to join and not spam us, then I think we would build personal relationships with them. That's got to be good for their business.

I am speaking as an individual and not on no ones behalf, I completely agree with everyones comment on this topic. I got a little bit carried away with the amount of posts I put on here, and did not intend on causing any trouble.
I will personally not post anything here unless we are having a special OR new item - things in that nature.
Could you make a seperate section for posts FROM vendors on these specials ?
Also, and I can't believe I'm bringing this up, but what about asking vendors who do want to post, for a monthly donation to the site.
I was looking through another post, and mentioned CR's site and got an e-mail asking If I would be intrested in a $10 monthly donation in exchange for having my banner add in a rotation.
Just a thought.

If you post that you are having a special Kevin or I will make it a sticky until you decide that the special is over. Just post it on the Alabama Reef Keepers forum.

I have not, and never will accept money for the club. The only donations i will ever take are frag trades, etc. This will always be a non-profit club.
