Looking back i think i killed a few clams listening to other people talk about the clams mantle attaching. Since none of mine ever attached i was constantly moving them around sometimes on the rock. Now i am a believer on just letting them be and they will go where they want and attach when they want to.

Is that a Squamosa?
I don't think the clams that grow larger attach as easily, they tend to have a smaller byssal gland and use their weight to keep them in place. My Derasa is attached to a small rock that doesn't do much. My Squamosa won't attach to anything, and there is a shell under him he could attach to, his threads just sorta hang there. The Crocea dropped his foot on the way home, but grew a new one and attached in no time whatsoever to a shell.

I saw this monster last thursday, the pics don't do justice at all, that thing is HUGE! It's definitely the centerpiece of that side of the tank, at least along the bottom (lots of SPS on top!)

I think it is a Squamosa but not sure as you know my reef skills are not very good...I have green stuff and brown stuff and purple stuff...hard and soft....

They will scratch/calcify (not sure which) the glass that they touch. You might want to move them away from the glass.

I can tell you they will attach to the glass, first hand experience.

I know the one that you're talking about.. that picture doesn't really do it justice. I've been admiring that one for a while thinking it was awesome... Glad it went to someone in the club.
