I know I (we?) have seen at least a dozen of these DIY moonlights, but came across something very very easy and cheap, thought you all might appreciate it.
I was in wallyworld the other day and walked by the lights section, they have a dozen little cabinet, closet lights etc... and saw a small, 13"x1/2" cabinet light fixture. It is a very simple setup, with 5 LED's in the 13"x1/2 strip. it is an enclosed unit... barely, and can easily opened up, (4 total screws, of which only 2 need to be removed to remove the clear cover) for changing out the LED's.... The unit runs $9.93. At the wallyworld in daphne the fixture was located on the isle right across from the entrance to the computer/movie section at the end of the isle.
The LED's are white, but I am swapping them out with super blue 470nm LED’s, which can be gotten at RadShack for $3.99 a piece or online at many places for much less.
The white LED's are almost perfect for a tank, I tried them out as is on my 55G column tank and almost decided against changing to the super blue.
Anyways... just thought I would share this info.

If you can take a shot of the light and what it looks like when its open, would be easier to vision.

Something I found recently, but haven't ordered it to try it out. It looks like 12 led's mounted in an acrylic tube. At only 12" it should be fairly easy to mount. At only $15 compared to the Weiss moonlights, it seems to be a good deal and would look good.

I will get a picture of the assembly from wallyworld tonight...
as for the xpcgear setup, that is very cool looking.... but after reading about it, its flashing, cant get a solid light from the setup. *shrug*

But for that special night for the fish.....
It's Disco Time!

Found this quote funny!! Stop action for the fish.

The highest speed settings turn it into a strobe light for when the urge to boogy just can't be kept down.

Ok... sorry it took so long but here are the pics of the light strip I started this thread about.
Of course these pictures are before putting in the blue 420nm led's.
Just for time being I put this on my canopy as is to see how it was, and does a great job of lighting up, the marine life really seem to get active with the "moonlight"

on my tank I think it looks great... When I get the chance to change out the bulbs to blue I think it will look even better. I will get a picture of it on with lights out to give an idea inside the tank lighting.
By the way, I was at Lowes in Foley over the weekend and they carry this same exact light setup in multiple different lengths from 13" I believe upto like 36".
