Hi from Bham

Post by Belothesurf »

Hi everyone, I got here off a thread from SWF.com. Great site!!!! Nice to see some fellow reefers in Bama. The thread off SWF was asking if anyone was from Bama.......and now I find myself in Mobile????? Ha,ha.
I love Mobile. I can remember going to the USS Alabama when I was about 5 or 6, and I'm 34 now, so we are talking about many beers ago. I spent a great Mardi Gras in Mobile, in 1990. I was in the Navy and my ship parked there for several days. Friends and family came down from Bham, and I met a few nice ladies also.....aaaahhhhhh...to be 20 again.......sorry, didn't mean to wax nostalgia.......any ole ways, just wanted to say hello.......and of course......Roll Tide!!!!!

Thanks Terry, Actually, I have a good friend who makes her way around Miss. (....hehe....I tried to spell it......nope....one tee many Martoonies....) she is a dietician and goes to a number of different nursing homes around the state. My sister actually lives in Panama City, so let me know. I need an excuse to visit her.........don't tell her that. At any rate, I just started my tank......55g....back in December. I have unfortunately fooled around with several fish........my 2 poor false percs met their ichy demise after I took out most of my live rock in order to catch a shrimp murdering bi-color parrot that my lfs told me would be fine in a reef tank. That caused an ammonia spike, (taking out the live rock)which wiped out my engineer gobies.....I already had my 2 percs in a hospital tank doing the hyposalinity thing because they had gotten a nasty case of ich from a Royal Gramma that died 5 days after I got him....from ich. So now....I have a fishless 55g with about a 100lbs live rock.......40lbs live sand......a sweet 20g refuguim with some macros that I bought off Ebay.....they seem to be ok.......definitelty tons of pods.........and i just got a confirmation email that my first coral order from swf is on the way. I ordered a toadstool leather and 5 ricordia polyps...........I feel like an expectant father......( I also got 2 false percs....hehe.......).....Here we go...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know that much about the lfs in Birmingham, but you might ask someone here:http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisp ... orumid=167. It sounds like the one you go to is uninformed.

I've heard good things about a lfs in Rainbow City, is that near you?

so far I'm not impressed with the local knowledge. I have been doing a ton of research myself on the subject ( ok....I've read 2 books and a bunch of online stuff..............not sure you could call that research.) But I feel informed.................at any rate, there is a sweet store in Bham, by the Galleria. He has at least 2 500 gallon aquariums, got a 200G loaded with fish.........got a lmb that has to be 8 inches long.......and he has 4 30 gals stuffed with corals. The least he is asking is $40, I think....he's cool, gives me free RO/DI water.....................I just look at the monster lmb

Rainbow City is a tiny city, situated outside Gadsden. If you find yourself, venturing down 65.......rest assured.......you just left a good place,...you are on your way to better.....................
