Flaming Reef Tank

Just a friendly reminder to check your endcaps for corrosion, might not be what happened here but...

And here is a nice pic Image

The reason i bring this up is two years ago i had a PC endcap catch fire. Oh this pic is not my endcap by the way, mine looked worse.

I've had a VHO endcap do the same thing. I smelled something for a couple of hours before the smoke started, but I couldn't figure out where it was comig from. Luckily I was home and when it got bad my Icecap turned the power off to the bulbs.

BTW, your light set up doesn't have to be old for this to happen. Min ehad been set up for only about a year and there was no corrosion on the wires.
Wanted: to set up a tank again.

I've had one do that too... that's why I got replacements from you, Kevin. It looked a lot like that, the copper contact for the bulb snapped in two and was arcing (best I can tell)

I try to at least shield my wires and endcaps with either plumbers/divers silicon or aquarium silicon to prevent the salt from getting to the contacts. So far since i have been doing this i have had no more problems.
