East Coast Clams Transhipped Live Rock
Just thought I would pass this tidbit on (Not so much of a recommendation as just thought you might be interested)
East Coast Clams is offerring transhipped rock at a good price.
Fiji = $2.25 / lb
Kaelini = $2.50 / lb
Marshall Island = $3.75 / lb
http://www.eastcoastclams.com/ (click on Wholesale Live Rock)
(*EDIT*) This is "Transhipped". IE: You can not specify sizes, it is definetly not cured. You get what the distributors get.. A box of rock of unknown sizes and quality. I'll gamble it's kind of fun.

Well I hope so.. just got this from Rob:
I am trying to figure out when my freight is coming in tommorrow.Kaelini. 67 pounds at $2.50 pound = $167.50
Fiji 47 pounds at $2.25 a pound = $105.75
Total bill from eEast Coast Clams is $273.25 for 114 pounds/ avg $2.40 a
pound
They did not give me an arrival time, but it should be early. You can call
Delta and use the airway bill number and see if they can tell you what time
the flight is scheduled to land. They should be able to. If they do not
know yet, that simply means it has not left LA yet.
Please let me know after you get it and unpack it.
I have billed your card for that amount. $273.25
Also let me know how much shipping cost you. Don't forget your id at the
airport.
All Right.. My rock arrived this morning at Pensacola Airport. It took the trip from LAX - ATL - PNS. Shipping was 74.78 for 118lbs. So all told I figured it came to an average of $3.04 / lb SHIPPED.
I am very pleased with what I got. I can't really tell if there are any hitchhikers, other than 1 dead eel or something.. eew
Didnt really smell too bad, I was suprised. If I would have known what the Kaelini looked like I would not have ordered 1 piece of fiji. I think the Kaelini looks 100% better than the fiji, and seems to be just as light. And it tends to come in larger pieces. Colors are Great on all of it.. oh sure there is 2-3 little pieces that I am not all that impressed with the coraline coverage, but most all of them are covered with all sorts of different colored corraline. Rob at East Coast Clams has been a stand up guy and helped me lots even though he is making 5cents a pound from this stuff.
The colors in the pictures are washed out.. these were taken in the sunlight this afternoon and for some reason it made them all just look colorless.. they are not though. Oh and looks like I got some crud on the lens somewhere through taking the pictures.
The box in the back is actually the Kaelini and even though it does not look like it in the picture, it is a good bit larger box than the one in the front.
Box of Fiji upon openening it.

The Kaelini - openening

A piece of the Kaelini

Another piece of the Kaelini (*On second thought i think this was a Fiji piece)

A huge piece of Kaelini (even though it doesn't look like it in the picture, this one rock took up most of the room in the box. It's propped on top of the trash can, I could not hold it in one hand.

Closer shot of same rock

More Kaelini

Can't remember if this is Kaelini or Fiji

Hey Brandon,
Clean your camera.
I am glad all worked out for you and that you seem happy with the rock. I received 231 pounds myself today, and was very happy with the kaelini also. It feels good to be able to help someone out in this hobby. Maybe if I help enough people something good will happen to me. Shoot me a picture when you have it all tanked, and the water is clear.
Thanks again for your order, Rob from www.EastCoastClams.com

No Aquascaping, just sort of placed in there and curing for the time being. The southdown has finally settled enough for me to see them. I need to get the turkey baster and blast everything off real good though.
I have to figure out how to make this pile of rocks look like something good now... hrm.
Ok silly newbie question.. how the heck do I get a good flow in the front? Is the best way just to stick some powerheads in the corners?
