Quick question. I was just wondering why the new shell growth while in my tank is not the same color as prior to my tank?
Am I missing something in my water or is it lack of proper nutrition?
I'm sure this is just a very odd q but I was curious.
7months growth
The newer growth simply doesn't have various epiphytes and other commensals. It varies from water conditions (i.e. less or more nutrients) and the actual growth rate. If growth skyrockets, then it isn't unusual to have a ring of white/whitish shell.
I have the EXACT same clam and the growth looks Identical . I have been told it is normal due to it being 'new shell" that it will darken like the rest with age but so far mine hasn't but I have only had him 7 months so maybe they mean years.

I had a clam for 3 years before I sold and it always darkened after a while, but it always has some white from the new growth.
