Tide pools
Anyone know of any tide pools around the pensacola/panama city area? Also if it is illegal to gather things from there? Thanks!
Re: Tide pools
Tide pools are a phenomenon only occurring in areas with a rocky bottom, on the gulf coast you won't see any until you get around Tampa.
100 gal mixed reef, 30 gal sump, 4x54w T5, 2x150w HQI, OctoX 200 skimmer, Kalk top-off, rocky mixed reef.
Re: Tide pools
Ok thanks! How about some good gathering spots?
Re: Tide pools
Look around jetties, piers, boat ramps, etc. There are interesting fish around Mobile bay/Dauphin Island, but they are few and far between. Going east of Ft. Walton beach will get you some better catch. Getting a 1' dia pond net with a long bag will be helpful, and be aware of local collection laws.
I have a thread on species I've caught in the Mobile area on here, I need to update it, I've caught some cool stuff since then.

You can catch peppermint shrimp on bridge pilings. It's best to go at night with a flashlight and a dip net. Last time my brother-in-law and I caught about 50. Friends have told me of collecting around Destin in the summer. I can't remember what they caught though.
Wanted: to set up a tank again.
Re: Tide pools
There was a thread on the panhandle reefkeepers site where they posted maps of collecting spots in Destin and listed some of the stuff they were finding at the spots.

I found which thread you were talking about

Re: Tide pools
If you can get offshore and dive reefs about 90 feet deep, you can find Angelfish, and other nice reef fish. The problem is catching them quickly and bringing them to the surface. I dove off of Pensacola before and caught reef fish.
