SKIMMER?

Post by kristo »

Hey all,

I need a cheap small skimmer that could hold it's own on a 55 gallon reef because i am sick of doing so many water changes!!! So if anyone could provide any assistance, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Take a look at some of the skimmers at Progressive. There are nicer models up there. They aren't incredibly cheap and I don't know your budget, but maybe look into some of the Octopus skimmers. I'd sell you mine for when I upgrade, but I can't let it go for anything under $500.

Not to be negative but a cheap small skimmer will not lessen your water changes. Save your money and buy a good skimmer. I have a ASM G2, on my 55 reef and my water quality is great and I water change once a month. That skimmer is rated for like 200 gallons but it is on my 55 gallon, dont think I would put that skimmer on anything bigger...my .02
See ya out There!!!

yeah i understand what you are saying but i only do about a 25% water change every 2 weeks to every month now and my reef is fine right now. I just have an eco-aqualizer and magnum 350 canister filter and CF (360 watts). That is why i want a cheap small skimmer. i have anything from leathers to acros. Even though thankyou for your concerns...

I bet you'd still like the results of a more efficient skimmer, though. You'd be surprised how much a tank can improve. None of what you have can really take the place of an efficient skimmer. Not to mention you can use it on a future tank. Can't say much on the Eco-Aqualizer. It is an overpriced tube with magnets in it. Powerhead magnets do the same, only with even more water turnover. And what I mean by "same" I mean pretty much nothing--at least powerhead magnets do power impellers and propellers, though. If it were me, I'd just toss it or get my money back if I can.
