I m new to these boards and live close to mobile..And was wanting to know if anyone has nuisance species i.e. gorilla crabs or others that they have and want to get rid of? I have a large amount of space for these creatures that usually get flushed otherwise. So please reply if you guys are willing to let em go.
We actually had a beautiful female Cancrid crab at B&B, but someone finally bought her. She was interesting to say the least. I think we may have a small Xanthid hiding somewhere. If you are interested, give me a ring at B&B (feel free to pm me for the number) so that I can see if we still have it.
That is odd--the number is 661-3474. Are you calling during store hours (10am--8pm Monday thru Saturday; 1pm-6pm on sundays)? In any case, I will be in on Sunday, so give me a ring there and I will be happy to help you out.
Love my Crab that i picked up andrew. Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on it. If you guys get in anymore let me know or other nuisance type species people do not normally like in their tanks.

You are very welcome. I will give you the heads up if we get any more in--I am glad that there is someone who has the space and is willing to take these guys in.
I noticed this little crab munching on some Brown gracilaria.....Is this normal? lol It won't touch the pellets *sigh* I am going to try and give it a tiny piece of dead shrimp and see if it will warm up to that idea!
Not entirely uncommon for many species. Most crustaceans in general are opportunists, taking whatever is available that they would normally consider food.
Amphiprion DO you think it may be a stone crab? I have asked on another board and that is what they are saying..but of course they aren't for sure.

It very well may be-- 'stone' crabs are Xanthid crabs, anyway. That was my first impression. When I managed to look at it more closely in the bag, I still think that is what it was. Also be aware that, with few exceptions, crabs can be very difficult to identify, but I am fairly confident in placing it within that particular family. All of the Xanthids are pretty distinctive--here is a link to many of them, and you can see much of the common characteristics: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q ... a=N&tab=wi . There is no effective way to narrow it down to the genus, though.
