Roaming Anemone

Post by jmjohnson77 »

I have a new anemone that has roamed the tank and finally found a spot that he likes. Unfortunately, he's in the very back behind all of my rock work. Should I move him or let him be?

Do not try to move the anemone from its current spot. Doing so could potentially result in irreparable damage to its foot, which usually results in the death of the anemone. I would leave it be and try to feed it in its current location.

When I first added him to the tank, he attached to a rock and I carefully removed him and placed him in another location. Could that initial move, although he had only been attached for a few minutes, have hurt the foot? If so, what are the signs of damage?

If it is damaged, the anemone will likely detach and you will be able to see its mesenterial filaments (little white squiggly things) coming out of certain areas of the foot. If it has attached and is doing fine now, you might be alright. what kind of anemone is it?

I also had an anenome that positioned itself on the back side or underside of a rock and i just flipped the rock over to bring him to the front.. he has stayed there ever since... have done this with one other anenome that tried to move under the rock after it was flipped so i flipped it again and he also stayed... you might try that an it would also keep you fromdamaging the anenome...
