I have macro algea in my sump, none in tank. I have macro algea in both in Amys tank. In her tank we have abundant baby stars, critters everywhere growing in the agea. Only problem is once the algea attaches to the rock you pretty have it for life. In my tank my rock is kinda bare and hair algea here and there. In Amys no hair algea has ever, ever showed up. I also kinda like the "natural" look of her 29 gallon with macro algea living everywhere. So my question is this, is macro algea detrimental to a tank at all ? I know alot of people cannot keep it because they have Tangs, not an issue here. I am really thinking of getting a variety growing in my 75 gallon. Notice how her Bi Color loves this stuff, he is kinda fat and grown a taste for it.
Can you see anything negative about me doing this ??

I really think i am going to do this. Buuuutttt one problem, with all the emeralds and the two urchins they will make short work of it. I will need a big buffer to get started. Can anyone loan me more ?? I know if i put a small amount in the will eat it quickly. Funny though the only thing that has kept my hair algea at bay was turning the lights down. I have not seen the urchins touch it at all. I think the macro algea will dampen it or stomp it out totally. Anyway anyone got extra ?? Pretty please ? I can be the provider once it gets started.

Mine has just taken off and is growing everywhere. If you want some more, you are welcome to it. BTW.....I like the way it looks in a display tank. I would put some in mine, but with 6 tangs....well, it wouldn't stand a chance. The halimeda is trying to take root, but it is a slow grower.
Anyway, let me know if you want some more.

Well it is added and the clock is ticking. I am hoping nothing acquires a taste for it. I also am trying to cover the existing hair algea with macro algea (grape) so it will take root.
