Hey Sue,
What percentage of your SPS are from frags, aquacultured or wild colonies? I always had bad luck with wild but got one the other day that I could not pass up. It survived a 6 hour trip and looks great after a couple of weeks. That makes two out of about 10 that I have tried.
Also, what do you use to keep your alk and calcium right? What are your parameters?

Wanted: to set up a tank again.
My goal when I started was to get only aquacultured stuff, and actually, most of the sps I've bought have been. I think I have three actual aquacultured colonies that I ordered and most are from frags. The Alsepta is the one exception, that was one of those wild ones I just couldn't let go. 
And that is the one I'm most afraid of losing.
But when I think about it there are a number of wild corals in my tank. I used to beg the lfs guys to give me a peice of the corals they had that were going to die, just to try and save them. Sometimes they'd just sell me or give me the whole coral to give it a chance. A couple came with maybe an inch of tissue left on them and have grown into real good looking corals. So I guess I have about a 60% live rate with wilds. I still try not to buy them, though. The one I would really love to have someday is A. Hyacinthus, but they just don't do well from the wild (maybe 1%live).
I think I'm up to about a shovelful of buffer and calcium a day.
Actually, one teaspoon of each three times a day. (Ball and chain? HA! That's a tank on the end of that chain
) Mag. every other day. That's really all I add. I want a calcium reactor, but am pretty nervous about starting one with my tank as old as it is. I'm afraid a mishap could kill everything.

Sounds great. I wish I had the same luck!
I want several tables but not so soon. I am supposed to get a frag of one soon and want to see how it does. I thought that I had one before but I don't think it is now. I will always want an Acropora efflorescens and an A. solitaryensis.

Apparently I ask the wrong people. I have tried that a few times and only once did I get a reduced price. It did continue to RTN but I ended up stopping it by doing and dip in freshly made but ages saltwater. Yep, those and the A. Plana, have had enough people keep them in captivity long enough that their easier to find as frags. The Hyacinthus is going to get there, but I still only know of a few who've kept them alive. It has such a sweet pattern. I know I don't even want to try till I have the perfect, massive water flow that they need. I think it'll be a bigger tank and a few years for me...

I can understand it from a business point of view, I think they figure most people will wait till they look bad and then want it for nothing.
