Astreas' are temperate not tropical snails. They also are unable to right themselves if they fall over in sand. They are not really ideal for reef tanks.
Not necessarily true. There are plenty of Astrea sp. in the Caribbean (which is tropical). It depends on where they are collected. The vast majority of Astreas collected for the hobby are from either south Florida (miami area, Keys, etc.) or the Caribbean. I have plenty of tropical astreas and have had them for many years (without replacing them).
