Any interested in going in on a pallet of slate tiles?

The pallets are 480sf of tiles. I would need the bulk of the pallet, but there would be enough left over to do a good size room, or hallway or both.

If anyone is interested, let me know, the price would be less than $1.56 a square foot, and no sales tax, which I think is pretty good for natural slate. The price is $1.35/sq ft from the dealer, and it appears it would cost a couple hundred for shipping, so I would just go to Douglasvill, GA to pick it up. Approx 2 tanks of gas, or $100ish for gas.

Tot $748 / 480sf = $1.56 sf

I have tiled one of my bathrooms and my computer room. I want to put slate or something similar into my kitchen. How well does this stuff cut with a wet saw? My pops got me one for christmas last year so i could finish the rest of the rooms in the house. I'm not sure if i like the browns in it. I'm looking for a darker gray/black. Its something I'll have to think about. I'd assume that you went looking around town and found that slate is a lot more expensive then the price this guy is selling it for. I haven't even looked into it yet becuase it was going to be a project for next year or sometime afterwards.

It's easier to cut than porcelain or ceramic. It's a natural stone product, so you need to have a tight floor with minimal deflection.

What do you mean "tight floor" and "minimal deflections". The tile I put in the bathroom and computer room went in easy and looks good . I've helped my dad in the past so I never really learned anything other then watching him do it. I'm lost on the terms.

Deflection is a measure of how much your floor moves under load.

If you're on a slab you don't have to worry about it., if you're like me and have a crawlspace with joists you have to worrry about it.

I've got another question... I've been meaning to look it up but haven't yet. I have linoleum tile down in the kitchen, and if it is as hard to get up as the stuff in the bathroom I don't think i want to take it up. Is it possible to tile over that stuff if you score it so the morter mix has something to bond to?

I think you have to use Flexibond when you go over linoleum. You will hear people say to do it, if the slab cracks your tile will not crack. I have heard people say that the entire sheet of tile came loose from the linoleum.

Who know who is true. If the Linoleum is 20 years or older it will be nothing to get up.

Well if should be brittle by now. I would pull it all up, should not take any effort then soak the old glue in maybe vinegar water and let it soak for an hour, it then should come up with a paint scraper.

If you can push your fingernail into it and it leaves an impression then it is cushioned vinyl and most people would tell you to pull it up.
I'm running into the same thing with my bathroom, and I've decided to pull it up and and the OSB under it and install Cement backer board.
Might as well do it right, I don't want to do it again.
