I'm still gonna go with the HF model... I'll order it if they don't have it in stock.

5200 rated watts, 240v connection, and has all teh same bells/whistles of any pull-start generator does, like low oil shutdown, breakers, etc. should end up being about $510 w/ tax.

the online prices are honored at the retail stores, just bring a print-out... we have a store here in Mobile too. They also have a cheaper ($330 plus tax) one that only does 120v and is rated somewhere in the 3300watt range... same type features, OHV engine, low-oil, etc... only downside of the stuff that HF carries is that it's mostly "store brand" stuff, meaning cheap stuff made in <pick an aisan country>. I've had very good experiences with their products, from simple tools, to more complex items like powdercoating machines and sandblasting booths.

May I suggest....keep the oil changed in it like it says to do to make it last longer if/when you get one.

If HF runs out, call Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, etc etc....

We went into a hardware store for some other stuff (not Hurricane related ;) ) over lunch and a pallet where they were advertising generators was empty. They had some in the back of the store, 8 in fact left.

Holy crap that 1st big one is cheap.. no idea how I would get it home and then I'd probably need my own private gas station to feed the beast..

Those arent' bad at all...

I know somebody that actually brought home a sled-type generator like that and powered his whole house with it... his neighbors were pissed hehe (those things are hella loud).

Pep Boys has generators, about all you gonna find in town.

3000 watt there, Coleman 299.00. They had 30 of them in stock, also a 2500watt I think.

This is my own opinion, since I am in the medical field... an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... Meaning if you prepare ahead of time then it wont happen...

prepare ='s buying a generator should average out to at least a couple of years without another major hurricane.
Wonder what it is going to take to get a bigger tank?????

Generator was not a Coleman but I am very happy with it. Ended up being 3000 normal 3600 peak.

The thing Melissa is mentioning about the oil.. I noticed last year that a lot of people didn't bother to change the oil at all in their generator.. Egads, the things just been machined, it's gonna shed metal bits right after running. Change it after a couple of hours running, and then you should be good for another 20or so hrs... or whatever the manual says. A little can of 30wt is cheap. These cheaper, small generators need to be babyied to really last I think.

:) Again, just my opinion.
