Computer problem
I restarted my spare computer tonight and it is giving me this message every time. It comes to this screen and stops. Does anyone know how to fix this.

It does this if there is a floppy in the drive or not.
The resurch that I have done show me that I will need to replace the bios on the motherboard. I have located the bios but I can not get it out. It will be $20 to $25 just to get another bios shipped to me from the company. I have found a used (2 weeks) motherbard that is used on ebay that ends in 6 days that is $5 and $25 shipping. If this board stays at that price I think that I would be better off getting that board.
This is what I have come up with, if anyone knows anything else that I can do please let me know.

It is getting a checksum error during post, the battery could have failed. Hit the delete key while booting to see if you can get into the BIOS. It can also be an option card that is bad, I would remove any not needed option cards they can short the BIOS out enough to cause checksum errors. Since the BIOS lost the hard drive settings it is not booting now.
You do need to get into the BIOS and set defaults, make sure the hard drive is recognized. Forget replacing the BIOS, just replace the motherboard, you can probably get one compatible with the processor off of EBAY used.

Dude, bios is just a software. To update the bios, all you do is d/l it , put it on a floppy, and the nstart your computer, and it will ask you if you want ot load the new bios.
What motherboard do you have?

I actually had a customer bring a motherboard in and he tried to "update" it himself. He took a pair of needlenose to the motherboard and tried to remove the Dallas module, this was in the Pentium 60-233 days.Zidion wrote:whoa whoa whoa!!!!!!andy4499 wrote:It does this if there is a floppy in the drive or not.

Seriously though, there is no need to even flash it. A checksum error is normally cause from something "shorting" the motherboard. Everytime I have gotten a checksum error was when an option card was bad or from a bad battery. If the battery is low it cannot completely keep the BIOS settings therefore a checksum is created because the parity does not match from the corruption.
Trust me I have been working on these things since the Atari 800XL and have been doing it professionally for nearly 13 years.

Every time the computer is turned on it goes to this screen within a few seconds. That is the only screen that comes up.
Here is a link to the exact motherboard that I have. It is for sale right now for $30 shipped with over 5 days left.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1
I tried to download these updates for it, but the computer will not recognize the files or something because they don’t work.
http://www.soyousa.com/downloads/select ... OS+Upgrade
I have tried to hit the delete key along with every other key and nothing happens.
I swapped the battery out and it does the same thing. I have unplugged all the cards (network, and video) from it and it still does the same thing. I swapped the cpu and the power supply out and get the same result. I don’t know what else I can do but buy a new one, unless someone had some time to take a look at it.
