Little Trooper

Post by sb1227 »

This little one gets my vote for trooper of the year. For a one-eyed, stump-tailed, broken toed beardie with MBD she had the heart and the attitude of a dragon a hundred times her size. She left this morning to go where dragons go when they die.....we will miss her greatly.

She was about two, we got her when she was about six months. Becky confiscated her from the store because she just looked like she was going to die very soon, and I'm sure she would have. She never got much bigger than a normal 4 month old beardie because of the MBD. With lots of nursing and tons of calcium she had a happy year and a half that she never would have had, so it makes it a little easier.

Man Sue please tell Becky I am so sorry. It is like loosing one of your kids, especially when they have special needs.

Thanks Karen, I will. We've always been ones to take in Special animals, and it's a wonderful experience, you learn so much from them. Seems like they show you a different way to look at priorities. :) But it never gets any easier at the end....

MBD is Metabolic Bone Disease, but she had some reason she couldn't utilize calcium, and lizards rely on calcium so much when they grow, they do almost all of their growing in the first 6 months. Our other ones are like 16 inches long, she never got to 5 or so. It was pretty weird to see the difference between them.

Good job helping an animal live as healthy a life as it could. :!:
