Gatlinburg

Post by wtrhed »

We are making our yearly voyage to Gatlinburg in about a week. I have yet to find a shop that is close or on the way. Does anyone know of any? Do any of you head that way for a short vacation?? We are wanting to check out the winery this trip, if anyone has been, please give feedback.

I do not know of anything that is on the way there. We have been to Gatlinburg one time and really anxious to go back soon, it is a very beautiful place to visit.

Next go around I will like to camping and take a slightly different trek, we mainly stayed in a cabin last time.

I know of one or two places in Knoxville, will try to find out the names. You ought to check out the aquarium in G'burg, I haven't seen it yet, they built it shortly after I left. I lived there for years, still have my log house close by, in the boonies... :D

I have only been there one time, but it was before I set up a tank, so aquarium were not on my mind. We are also planing a trip to Gatlinburg some time in may. We plan to rent a cabin for 4 or 5 days.

If going thru Atlanta go to Cappucino Bay Aquarium. One of the largest selection of SPS in a store in the country.

We went last summer and the aquarium was, to me, one of or if not the best public aquariums I have seen. You would think that Chattanooga or Knoxville would have some but we really werent looking when we where there.

It's a lot quicker to go through Knoxville to get to Gatlinburg, but if there is something to do near Asheville then you could come home through Atlanta. Nikki's grandparents have a house in Maggie Valley NC and there are a few cool things to do over that way. There is a casino in Cherokee (never been ther so I can't say if it's any good) and you can take the Blue Ridge Pkwy from Pigeon Forge to Cherokee and it's a beautiful drive. If you go up the hill on the main street it takes you to the BR Pkwy.

the public aquarium in Gatlinburg is pretty good. It's a lot like the one in New Orleans but there are some differences.
Wanted: to set up a tank again.

Thanks for all the info, we have been several times. I would still like to check out some of those ATL shops. We tried to ski in maggie valley last trip but they were closed. What else is there to do in that are? I just figured there had to be a shop somewhere in Knoxville or close by, guess not. As for the aquarium, we go everytime. Has anyone heard about the one we're getting??

You can go either way, 65 north or 85 east. 85 will take you to Atlanta, then 75 north to chattanooga. as 40 and 75 both meet in Chattanooga on the way to Knoxville. It about the same amount of time, give or take an hour. There are a couple of stores in Knoxville, but they don't have much, most of the people actually go to Cappuchino Bay from what I hear. It's actually in Marietta, just north of Atlanta.
If you take the road on thru Gatlinburg and go up into the mountains, it's a beautiful drive, stop and see clingman's dome...it's quite a sight on a clear day.

There's a place called the coral reef on Kingston Pike, and one called Fins and skins on downtown west Blvd. I haven't been to them, but you could ask here: http://www.easttnreefclub.com/
