A date is not set for vote as far as I can tell... the last action was " 8/2/2004 House committee/subcommittee actions. Status: Executive Comment Requested from Commerce. "
From my understanding , it has just been introduced, it will be scheduled for debate later, and after they get their ducks in a row and all the debate has ended it will go up for a vote in the house of representatives. If it passes their it will go before the senate ways & means committee and I guess start all over there before a vote in the senate. And then the prez. That is my understanding anyways, but 5th grade civics class was a loooong time ago, so its a wee bit fuzzy.

hmmm, wonder if this passes in order to inforce transporting laws they will get reef sniffing dog's?
We will have to buy our reefkeeping equiptment as "water purification devices"..... and I bet if you go into a shop and mention it as being used for REEF... they will kick you out for fear of undercover agents narking on them.
We will have to trade in secret..... hide the grow out lights of our reefs from our windows, we will be basement growers.
Maybe we will all have to be content with nano reefs as they will likely be looked at as just a nuisence.... whereas a larger tank would be a felony.
I wonder if they will make softies and lps crimes less severe, but crack down on the hard stuff ( sps's ).
Corals will become so scarce that instead of selling by the colony, frag or polyp... individual pieces might well be measured down to the gram and sold by weight and purity of strain.
There might end up being an underground network of "coral dealers" that get shipments in illegally.... creating a crime boss ring of local reef dealers.
I wonder if we reef finatics can get government assisted therapy to help ease the pain of losing this addictive hobby.
Maybe in the end it will only be illegal in the United States, and other countries will continue to keep and cultivate the corals into killer strains that we will just drool over. They might even hold a yearly festival where we Americans could go over and look at the new strains and see what we are missing......
Never mind...... that could never happen!

"Well......maybe I did get alittle carried away! "
I read this as that it is only for imported corals. Section 4 is for the exceptions, initially no one could import until licensing is established for aquaculturing and mariculturing and then those licensed establishments could get imported corals... I think this would be the end of decent live rock though. And I'm sure the licensing will be nearly impossible to get at least for a couple of years. This would probably kill all the cottage industry frag growers too.SEC. 3. PROHIBITION ON TAKING, IMPORTING, EXPORTING, AND TRANSPORTING CERTAIN CORAL REEF SPECIES.
(a) In General- Subject to section 4, it is unlawful for any person to--
(1) take any covered coral reef species within waters under the jurisdiction of the United States;
(2) import into or export from the United States any covered coral reef species;
(3) possess, sell, purchase, deliver, carry, transport, or receive in interstate or foreign commerce any covered coral reef species taken or imported in violation of paragraphs (1) or (2); or
(4) attempt to commit any act described in paragraphs (1) through (3).
I wonder how this would affect foreign aquacultured corals, like bali-aquacultured acros?
