Fin and tail rot?

Post by jerryf »

I need your help. My dragonnet is showing signs of sickness. His long dorsal fin appears to be disintegrating. There may also be area like this starting on his tail. I want to treat it correctly, but I want to be sure to diagnose correctly. Is this fin and tail rot or could it be something else?

I am not sure about fin rot in marine fish, but check for stray voltage in the water. I electocuted all my fish except two and they had no dorsal fins left. Also be careful what medications you use. A q-tank with copper might be the best bet.

first check to see if any fish are picking on him, then find out your pod population, is it adequate, check your water parameters, bad water causes sick fish, then if it is deteriating, take him out of the tank into a quartinteen tank and treat him with penicillin or metronytazol. thats the only thing i can tell you...
