Devils Hand Leather sickly....what to do?

Post by danielmiller82 »

I have a frag of Devils Hand Leather It was doing really well in my other tank until the hurricane (under 48w of light in the 18g). I put it in my 3g a on monday under 26w of light and it bloomed for the first couple of days but for the last 3 days it has looked sick.. not a single bloom has appeared. All of my levels read ok..(nitrates were up to 15ppm..but i found a hermit chomping on a dead snail and removed it and did a 50% water change...so now they are negligible.) I add trace elements every other week and with water changes. I also add calcium when needed, Any clue why this guy isnt doing well...or is it normal to close up for a few days when put in a new tank?

Unless it starts melting, just give it time. It seems to take a little while to turn back around. I don't think you can kill the stuff though :)

I have a piece in my nano where all my Xenia died and threw off toxins and it was literally hanging by a thread upside down from having lost its support and will to live.

It's all polpyed out now though. Give it some time. Mine took several days before it perked up. And when the lights would go off after we got our power back it would gasp and look like it was dying again. Give it some time.....

Also spray the outside of it with a turkey baster or powerhead to help it shed it 's skin. Anytime they are moved or disrupted they are prone to shed a layer of skin. Give it time, they hardly ever, ever completely die.
