Miracle Mud

Post by Jahdiel »

Want to set up our refuge, Billy has his mind set on the miracle mud foundation. Any pros or cons? Any suggestions on other routes to take are accepted as well. Here is the site he got his info from.

You can get very similar results by just asking everyone in the club for a cup of sheir live sand, to seed your setup with. Much cheaper too :)

I have read good things about it. I just used sand in mine.

I ditto Josh and Jason. Just get some sand in yours (4"+) and ask for a cup of sand from us and we'll seed your refug. In about 1 month you'll be beaming with life! Come look at mine too if you like. We can probably fill your refuge with the macro we pull out in a month.

I thought I killed my garbage disposal last week when I stuffed all the macro down the drain... it was about 1/3 of a ten gallon bucket.

Josh, I wonder about you sometimes! I throw mine out with the grass clippings. I figure it'll be good mulch next year. I'll give my next batch to Jahdiel to start the fuge. Wait about 3 weeks and I'll hook you up. I just cleaned mine out to a nearly bare tank. I know Josh can fill your 30 gallon full within a week or two! His refuge is 55 gallons and last time I saw it, it was full.

yeah, if I totally emptied my refuge when it was full, it would be a ten gallon bucket 100% full to the top, it'd be a LOT.... I let it grow until it's in danger of clogging the overflow, then I cull about 30% of it back... that's about once monthly.

Hi, i use miracle mud in my ecosystem (same as a fuge) except for the miracle mud, i put this system on my tank a year ago, i read many different pro's and con's about the miracle mud all i can say is my tank took off once it was installed it has never looked so good, from what i read it has lots of iron in the mud plus other trace elements too many to list, i'm not saying it better then a fuge with live sand but like i said my tank never has looked the way it does, i use chaetomorpha for nutrient export and run 0 nitraits it's lite 24/7 it seems the tank runs itself, for me it was the best investment i've made, good luck whatever you decide.
