Storing RO water outside

Post by KrazyPlace »

My 5-stage RO unit (have DI add-on ordered to make it a 6-stage RO/DI unit) is located outside in a shed. I've been making 5 gallons of RO water at a time, but I always forget about it and overflow alot of water all over the damn place. I want to get a big plastic trashcan or barrel (50 gallons or so) and make a who batch over the course of a full day. This would last me about 4 weeks though. Does anyone have any idea if the water will 'spoil' over time in the harsh Alabama heat and humidity? I'm worried about bacteria and bugs.

Any thoughts? Help please! :?

If the container is sealed tight then it should be fine.

Not that I don't trust you, but is that conjecture or based on experience? I had the same hypothesis, but I'm worried about doing something to my tank.

I've stored it in a trash can with the lid on for at least a month before. I would think it should be fine. I usually keep a circulation pump in it, not sure if that would make a difference or not.

Well I don't have a RO filter any more, (I sold it with my last tank 4 years a go) but when I did have it I kept outside In a 25 gallon trash can with a lid on it and had no problems. I only had the filter for a year or so, but gave me no problems.

It was stored outside, in the open, I store it like that all the time. I hate having a large trashcan full of water in the house.

That sounds pretty promising. Andy4499, did you circulate it? I wouldn't think I'd need to.

I store mine in the garage. IT gets estremely hot in there, especially this time of year! You should be okay, as long as there is a lid!

My RO/DI and my 3 gallon holding tank is located in my hot garage, the TDS meter still reading 0-1 in the heat.
