18g with a Sump...

Post by danielmiller82 »

I have an 18g and a sump system meant for a 100g. with a HOB overfow box. Should I convert a currently empty 10g tank into a sump/refuge? would that be something good to do?

what do you mean by "sump system"?

Since you have all the parts to make one I would do it.

I bought it when I was just going to do a 55-75g FOWLR tank but i decided to start with a smaller reef first. The sump is funny shaped so I can't easily turn it into a refuge (and I wanna keep it around for when I decide to get a larger FO tank).

not sure what the hob is. do you have a link to a pic of it?

If you do use it right now on the 18, do you plan on removing it later for the larger tank?

if you plan on hooking it up to the 18 and keeping it there I say use it. Have you considered (since your stand seems tall enough) drilling the 10 gallon you have and hooking it up as a refuge?

maybe have the overflow leading into the 10 and have a stand pipe design draining into the 15 sump. Probally over kill but you have the pieces already.

See first post..thats what I had planned for the 10g...a sump/fuge. I hooked up the overflow box to the sump i have already. When I get around to getting some silicone and acrylic for the sump dividers, I will set up the 10g sump/fuge

oh okay, i must have totally misread all that stuff. You are just asking whetehr or not you should put a 10 gallon refuge under the tank, right?

I would.

Nah....its beside the tank...I was just wondering if I should go through the trouble of converting the 10g to a sump.
