RTN

Post by tbmoore »

Would like to make a list of everything that causes RTN and how to stop..
I have had couple of frags just up and RTN for what I assume is no reason. Thought it was when I changed my lights but that has been a while now...I did add some pumps last wk.... :?:

High alk
low alk
drastic change in tank conditions
lack of acclimation to lighting
using carbon after a long time not using it

I'm sure there are more. I think anything that might stress a sps could cause a RTN.
Wanted: to set up a tank again.

Sucks Hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate RTN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I say RTN sucks? :?

Confusing subject. Causes of RTN can be anyone or more of those that Scott named.

Only if someone figures out how to stop it!

If you are serious.....then it is Rapid Tissue Necrosis, mostly happens on SPS's that are stressed out somehow someway. Recession of living tissue that seems to just slime away from the skeleton. There is also the slow (STN) variety also.

Thought you might be kidding.

Anways RTN is very serious is the SPS world. For some reason, a certain coral can just completely die off within minutes. And the rest of the tank can be fine. And once in awhile, it will spread to neighboring corals. Kinda freaky huh? A SPS fanatic worst nightmare! *knock on serious wood*

I'm glad you asked what it was because I didn't want to look stupid when I asked what it was.

We would never kid on this site.... No sky hooks here  But really RTN is something nobody can really put their finger on....you will go to bed and everything is ok and when you wake up the coral is white and dead...sometimes you have had the coral for a while and looking great...growing....and boom...it just dies....that is why I frag my stuff so much and place in different parts of the tank...little insurance policy...
