Be sure to wash/rinse the socks we got from Krazyplace.

<Disclaimer: I never said I was a genius>

I distinctly remember Jeff saying "Be sure you wash/rinse those socks before using them". Doh.. I had one that I thought I had already rinsed, I guess I hadn't . It was like putting soap in tank. I thought I was fixing to lose everything. The tank was filled with micro-bubbles, my sump had an inch of foam in it. My skimmer went bonkers.
All my sps slimed up, the clams gaped wide open.
At this point I was REAL damn scared. I though Oh great, there must have been soap on there and I just destroyed my tank. oOoOoOhh.. don't feel so good :? :oops:
I didn't have any water made up to change with either. I had just done a 30 gal water change yesterday.
Thank God I have a decent skimmer.. It dumped out about 3 gallons of water but I think it did the trick more than anything. I added about 3lbs of carbon, phos-x, etc..

I think everything is ok now though...... Making a note: Listen to Jeff when he tells you something :) I feel like one of those rednecks whose last words are "Hey Yall Watch This!"

PS: I like the socks a lot, I was just an idiot tonight.

Hey Brandon... I am so sorry! Before I gave out any socks, I put one in my tank first and I had the same episode occur. After that I washed the sock and did it again. No problem. No dead fish or corals on my side, so I don't think you will have any problems. :shock:

I should have stressed the 'washing' more. I don't know for certain what the 'soapy' material is, but if my guess is right it is residual monomers (ethylene & propylene) from the production process. It might be something from the conversion process which tranforms the pellets into the felt used for the bags. I really don't know how this is done, but its most likely a mechanical process and not a chemical one. :?

Ya... we laugh about it now, but I was almost crying when it happened to me too. :cry:

Yes, you will find the texture of the sock strange and a bad odor. Wash first.

all micron bags do this IME. I had my tank foam up too when I first added one to the tank (not Krazy's). Nothing damaged, but like you, I was concerned.
