skimmers
Since the deal with reefbert fell through, I am looking at a kent nautillus and a red sea belin skimmer online for close to the same $$$. Anyone have any opinions one way or another on them or another suggestion for a good skimmer?

I have been looking to. I have been researching since before the storm. Everybody has an opinion, but I came up with the three most popular brands, Euro-Reef, E.T.S.S, And ASM. These are the three brands that are worth looking at. I wanted an E.T.S.S but I really didn't have room, so I went ahead and ordered an ASM G-4 today. They are pretty much the same as Euroreefs, just different material and they are MUCH cheaper. Anyways, from what I've read/heard they are all good skimmers. DON'T SKIMP on the skimmer!

This is where I ordered mine from. They had everybody beat by a longshot. Rich sells E.T.S.S and talks VERY favorable of them.Champion and Mrine depot also sell ASM and Euro Reef. They have very good info and specs on the last two sites

2 more to think about, if you're wanting the needle wheel kind.
Jeff's Southbay skimmer.. between a Euro-Reef & ASM.
A little better materials than the ASM:

Also, Euro-Reef, Blems:

(If you sign up for his mailing list, he emails specials for them all the time)
Don't know what size tank this is for but that ES8-1 Euro reef blem is pretty good price @ $302 (ie: comparible to ASM G-4)

Should have mentioned, on the Kent Nautilus & Red Sea Berlin. I have never seen anything good about the Red Sea Berlin.
On the Nautilus, Reeferpuffer used to run one , and liked it. Snakeman is running the Nautilus, and seems to do a good job on his. Maybe one of them will chime in since they had/have them. I like how easy the cup comes off. I have an older MRC with thumbscrews to remove the cup... always dropping them in the sump and have to go fishing for them.
Personally, I think most of the Beckett designs beat the needle wheel skimmers, but they aren't nearly as efficient, requiring a big pressure rated pump to push the water through the Beckett Nozzle.

I have seen good things on the nautillus also. Was going to get the Red Sea from reefbert for the price he offered I couldnt pass it up. If it didnt work great I was still getting enough other stuff that I wouldnt feel bad about canning it for a new one. Do you need as great a skimmer for a FOWLR as you would a reef tank?
