Mobile Bay Reef Keepers

I was very bored yesterday, so I decided to take some pics of certain corals and see how theey were doing. Now, I decided to share. Let me know what you guys think.

A new colony from Dr. Mac - very light purple - Interesting coloration, but unknown as to what species

Purple Humilis w/ bright blue polyps, look closely you can see the blue dots even when out of water.


Millipora frags that fully encrusted, branches are starting to poke out.

Last but not least my prized frag (for the moment) - purple myagi tort from Virginia - out of water pic.

Love that green millipora! Makes a cool shaped colony too.

That tricolor looks like a valida to me. I have a nana and it looks pretty different. What does that tort look like in the tank? Nice pics

Honestly I do not know what species that tricolor is actually, I got a very small colony awhile back, fragged a couple of times. Grows pretty well. I always referred to it as a "tricolor."

As for the "myagi" tort, it looks much better in the tank. I just couldn't get a focused pic on it in the tank.

That's why I rarely post pictures. I have to take a ten or twenty to get one really good one.

Tripods help alot. I good filter pack from Tiffen can help if you just cant get close enough and can give alot of clarity for your pics. Most of your digital cameras that consumers buy have a relatively slow shutter rate, in the aquarium everything is moving so a high shutter rate is important. Unfortunately the cameras with a high shutter rate are in the upwards of $1,000 - $1,500

Nice stuff ...... Trying to figure where I can place more frags in my tank when some of those grow out

That purple humilis is beautiful.

Is that the humulis that RTNed and you had to break it up last September when the hydno fell on it?

Yes it is, it is sure lucky that I progressively fragged it up well into the healthy tissue, and then applied super glue gel very liberally on all the infected areas, sort of like a disinfectant. It has came back beautifully, and is also growing well.

Actually it fell on the hydnophora, which is no longer in my tank.

I ended up with a frag about the size of a fingernail (when I got them the day after the RTN). I have seen a little growth from it, but it is completely brown. Maybe something will change when I get new lights.
