splitting toadstool?
I've always wondered if one of our toadstools were splitting.... I think I have proof now
We've been watching a small hole grow in the center of it... now there's two holes... and the "stalk" is looking more and more like two. What do you guys think?

In my humble opinion, I do not think it is splitting. It might be something "wrong," be cautious. Try to see what is triggering that "hole." Might be some detritus, or worse, it might be dying in that area. I would use a turkey baster and blow at the hole to see what is happenning. Just some thoughts. Might be nothing at all.
This happenned to me a while back on my three headed leather also. The hole slowly became larger and completely wiped out the largest one. Now, I just have the two-stalked leather that is doing absolutely wonderful. Until, this day I do not know what happenned or why.
But then again, it might be splitting for you.

I am also inclined to say there is something wrong with the leather. I have seen this before on one of my own.

Check often around the base and the infected area for any type of small snails or critters chewing on it.

Xster, GREAT advice... I took a turkey baster to it this morning, while it had it's polyps in (lights just came on), and on the first burst, I got a wad of sand and crap out of the hole. The hole was very shallow. Looks like stuff might like to settle in the center and the toadstool can't shake it off. I'll have to keep blowing it out with the turkey baster once every few days to keep the hole clear.
Thanks again!
Now I just hope the hole heals up.
