Just Noticed Something Interesting

I just noticed this color change (if there was one) the other day on my purple monti digitata. Maybe it is just the correct color on a purple digitata, and now I just noticed it more when taking pictures. Please let me know.

When another reefer from Virginia sent my this frag it was only like 3 inches. It was solid purple, then browned out in my tank for a couple of weeks. After that it turned solid purple. But now it turn to this, I do not know why and how long. Maybe it is coloring up or down.

But I honestly love the contrasting colors. This has just become my favorite coral, for the time being. :D Thought I might share.

Here it is out of the water

I love it... they are one of my favorite all time stonies.

With my purple digitata (wich were brown when I got the frags) they have changed colors many times. I have two pieces from the same colony at different places in my tank and they are slightly different variations of purple.

Mine went through a period of polyp extension (brown), then when I started dosing calcium the polyps retracted , but new growth could be seen weekly..then it levels out and turned a nice purple color and the polyps are now extended again all the time.

Who's to say what the real color is.......... :P All your stuff looks awsome so it must be "the best coral it can be"

Yeah they do grow fast! Very noticeable fast! Very cool looking coral. The more I pay attention, the more I appreciate it. Yours look very similiar to mine. Maybe just different conditions, I don't know. Maybe someone can tell us what causes the contrasting colors from the polyps and the body. :) :D :)

I don't think the polyps have the ability to change colors like the actual flesh of the coral will do under intense lighting. I think the ones Shawn has I gave him and Kevin gave me. They were brown in Kevin's tank and brown in mine until I added to 400w MH. Shawns are a deeper color than mine but I think that is color temperature related or calcium levels (I can't keep mine above 400).
