Mobile Bay Reef Keepers

Hey all this is angel in pensacola, Brian's girlfriend. Well anyways We are having a problem with some kinda disease and I was woundering if anyone knows what it is and how to treat it. It is white like ick but more of a film. our clown trigger got it and we decieded to see if he was just stressed out and if it would go away on its own. well yesterday I lost my maroon clown to what looked like the same film covering the whole body, and today I found out Fu Man Chu lion dead covered in it. His started on the eyes instead of body though. I am afraid if we dont figure out how to treat it it may show up in our other fish and we will loose them all. I thought about a fresh water bath, but did not have a chance because the maroon was gone before i got home. I am here for any information any one might have. Thanks

From everything i have ever read about diseases it says to treat the infected fish in a hospital tank with copper. If the tank is a fish only you should can get a UV filter to further prevent infection. UV lights are not recomended for reef tanks though. I know that cleaner shrimp help reduce the spread of Ich and some other diseases. Fresh water baths will help on some reef disease like fungus and ich but try to make sure the water is close to the same temp that is in the tank. Most importantly you need to find the culprit of the disease, did you add any new fish ? If not you may want to look at your water quality for something way off that may had stressed your dfish enough to cause disease.
