1.030?!?

So, I borrowed Kevin's refractometer, and used it today. And it read 1.030 on the main tank! So, would this be why the tank has had slow growth and so-so coral activity during the past month or so?? I scooped about 4 gallons out of the tank (and let the RO/DI auto-topoff replace the lost salt water), and will re-read it tonight. Is 1.030 toooo high, or was that semi-ok?

That is borderline high. I don't think that it would have caused and deaths or anything but try and get it as close to 1.025 as you can. What was the reading on your hydrometer? I am sure that it was much lower, but have you cleaned it with vinegar recently?

I hadn't checked or tried to calibrate yet, but I know that the last time I used the two that I have, NEITHER read that high... dang POS's. If the wifey will let me, I'm gonna get a refractometer from ebay in the next day or so. Kevin, I owe you one!
