I really doubt I would do it again for four reasons.
Time, which I do not have a lot of and coding it back it will take hours.
Upgrades. Every time I have to upgrade the board to prevent the hacks I will have to recode the chat program back into the PHPbb installation.
It sucked. It was not like you think chat is, unless it has improved. It was Java based and there was a latency period involved which was more like playing ping-pong than chatting.
It is another security risk for hacking and they find there way in too often and I would rather not give them another way in.
Really guys it you want to chat it is too easy to setup an IRC group under the MBRK name and keep one person as the moderator.

Yea and if you watch who's online, its usually only one or two folks. Back in the "Hay Day" there would be 8-10 people on at prime time and the chat still wasn't that popular.

that and posting gives you time to think about what you're saying instead of spurting out what comes to mind and causing some kind of undue conflict.
Chatrooms are bad, mmmm kay.

conflict.. this isn't a political website

no its not political but Ive seen my share of misunderstandings leading into big blow ups and I can imagine if they were able to communicate any faster it would have only heated tempers up, cause man I know if I've had a bad day and someone tells me something that I can think seems like they are calling me a liar or wrong my temper could flare and if we get alot of that we'll get a bunch of people mad at a bunch of other people over nothing and then with an open chat we're bound to have some little instigators come to the site just to cause trouble. I've moderated a few chat rooms and I promise you they are far more trouble than they are worth a better alternative is to use an IM service and pass your screen names onto each other, I think most of them actually allow for chat rooms within the IM service.
