Mobile Bay Reef Keepers

Someone gave me a 50 gallon tub so I have my new tank but now I need some other stuff.

(edited) I dont need lights now, just purchased a dual 400 MH setup. Will probably just run one but will have more power for later if needed.

Im also in need of some sand. Im guessing another 30lbs or so will do me. Ive looked on ebay and saw they sell some for a fair price, but I was wondering if any of you guys might have had any experience with those guys online. The live sand is what Im talking about.

Im also maybe interested in some sort of sump setup. Maybe an overflow. I really dont want to go thru drilling the tank, and Ive never really had a sump setup so I honestly dont know what all I might need for that. Im looking into that now so I may be able to get more specific soon.

Anyway, that should do me. If any of you guys have some of this stuff lying around and collecting dust...wanting to get rid of it, let me know how much youre asking.

You know, if you aren't in a major hurry to stock that tank, why not use bagged sand and a couple of pounds of live sand you can get from most any LFS or local hobbiests tanks? Or your other tank, for that matter. It wouldn't take long to build the bed up and would probably be quite a bit cheaper in the long run. If you can put the sand, a heater and powerhead, water and a few rubble pieces you can just let it run while you do the rest. Just an idea.

Yea I wouldnt mind doing that, and I will be moving the sand over from the old tank which is well seeded. The only problem I see is I dont know where to get sand any cheaper then the live sand on ebay. Ive been out of the game too long.

Take a look at Drs Foster and Smith, I do know their shipping prices are excellent for heavier stuff. The carry a few brands of Aragonite sand, I believe.

Most of the LFS that do saltwater also carry it.

Thanks, I checked them out and they are still more expensive then ebay. I would think I could buy sand cheaper then live, but its not looking good so far. The local stores here in MS are much more expensive then the live on ebay. Its just really wierd.

Well, that's a good price. I would have to question what condition it comes in with Priority shipping in this heat though.

I didn't have good luck with them when I ordered some macroalgae, but they do have a fairly good feedack rating and my experience is probably not the norm.

believe it or not, petsmart has decent prices on sand and salt...

they match their websites prices, *without the shipping surcharge*
