From what I hear ... Christmas lights use a surprising large amount of current in spite of their size. But I guess when you take into consideration that it takes 10,000 just around the parameter of most homes. I can see where adding computers, switches and 200 extension cords could get a bit pricy.
But I don't even put up a tree so I can't say for sure. Just call me Scrooge.
