Anyone ever added sand to deepen the bed in an existing tank? Am I just asking for a mess? Would like to have a nice deep sand bed. Thinking of getting some live sand so as not to throw everything off. Just have the Percula clown, a few crabs and a snail.

you shouldn't have any problems doing this.

As long as it is rinsed well this is not a problem. Put the sand in a cup/glass and slowly submerse it.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. Get paid Friday, so we'll be going to Mobile or Pensacola this weekend for sand!

shouldnt be much of a problem. Just try not to add more than about an inch at a time to avoid choking out your existing sandbed. You can probably add an inch or so every 3-4 days. most sandbed critters are fairly tough and can obviously dig their way out.

I read that if you use a peice of PVC to add the sand thru it that it would cut down on the cloud, makes sense to me.
I would get at least a 1 inch PVC and cut it so its about 6inches above the water line and funnel the sand thru it to the bottom.
Good Luck

You can also put the sand in a freezer bag and then open it on the bottom of the tank, I've done it and it works pretty well.
it worked!
