anyone into sailing?

I've been mulling over the thought of getting a small beach cat, like a hobie 16/18... I think it would be a blast for running around Mobile bay, maybe out to Ft. Morgan or some such on a good day... has anyone sailed something like this?

Mobile bay in a sail like that good look they will rename you
shark food.
p-cola,navarra,destin in the sound would be great.Im a beach head

I've been on a few Hobie Cats and had a Sunfish when I was a kid. I know it was a lot of fun back then.

best time in the world on those
had a hobie 16 footer 3 sunfish and a 24.5 hunter fixed keel lover that one the best but its not real good in shallow waters had to stay a min of 6 foot depth now that i have moved to pcola ( orig from tallahassee ) i want to find a small sail boat
my father has been working on building 3-4 wooden sailboats i'v got to get him rolling again and get him in gear its gonna be gitting good out there in the water real soon

Looks like a sunfish might be better suited for me and my wife, since a hobie cat is kinda large to trailer frequently... a sunfish looks mighty small for two people tho!!

We've had two adults and two children one one. It's not very fast like that but when my uncle fell off it went a lot faster. My brother and I used to sail it alone when I was 13 and he was 10. My Uncle has a house on Dauphin Island near the airport, so we would just drag it down to the water, throw up the sail grab the daggerboard and cast off. If there is a decent wind you can get it up on it's side like the Hobie Cat just not at the same speed. It's real easy to sail the Sunfish. The catamarans are a little more complicated but once you are used to the Sunfish and plan to continue sailing it's the next logical step up. Used ones are cheap too.
