Question is how long will a mushroom live without light.....I am trying to rid tank of some mushrooms and was considering placing some black plastic from a garbage over an area in my tank to block the light....do not know if mushroom will try to move or die .... and how long would it take it to die......this would keep me from taking down part of my tank at a time...most mushrooms are low in the tank......just a wild idea to help spot parts of the tank with as small of an effect as possible...

dont think it will work... I had a mushroom on the bottom of a piece of LR. It was there for at least 2 months...and it wasnt dead yet...just scrape them off of the rocks when you can!

I think that they can live in little or no light for a very long time. I don't think you can kill them at all.

I was afraid of that...might have to tear down tank little at a time.....too many to do in place....and that will just spread them

They just turn completely opaque, then when they get back in the light they slowly gain there color. Inject them with Vinegar, that will do it.

will try that....have tried calcium and boiling water...

what will the vineger do to the ph

Vinegar won't affect your ph unless you use a lot of it. In a 240 I would imagine you would have to use a half a gallon to drop your ph too much.

I have tried: kalk injection, vinegar injection, kalk paste, boiling water injection, vodka and probably a few other things. Nothing seems to kill them and some of the methods made them split.

You really tried injecting vodka?

I was hoping to get them drunk so their loosened moral convictions would cause them to let go of the rock. (yes i really did and it didn't work)
