Both tanks are completly gone( thanks to Ivan). Only the live rock made it. Several thousands of dollars and 3 years work gone down the tube. I think I will call it quits so if anyone needs rock or equipment just pm me

I'm sure that all of us who are able would. I think that the hobby will draw you back in again eventually so you might as well go ahead and start over. Sounds like a good reason to upgrade to me.

Pick up the pieces and start over.....you still have the equipment and live rock.....clean it out and start a cycle...Frags are cheap or free so the expense will not be that high...The big expense in this hobby is what you already have....all you need is time and that is free....

If you change your mind after you sell everything, it will cost much more. Might want to think on it a while.

Sorry for not updating, it is a MESS everywhere down here. I was really worried that this would happen. They didn't let us on the island until sunday after the storm.Needless to say, everything was without power for five days. The tank had pretty much turned to black sludge and smelled like a dead elephant. It took me a whole day just to scrap the 75 and move/clean everthing to the 110. My spirits are down and I'm note sure what I should do.There has been so much going on that I haven't had alot of time to think about it. I just know that I don't want to see a tree or chainsaw for the next five years!!!!

Sorry for your loss....but again....clean up everything and start a cycle.....the rock will come back to life......the equipment is still good so all you will need to get a start is a few frags and couple of fish after the cycle......you build it they will come.........hope your life gets back to normal soon....

AMEN!!!!

You'll want to get it cranked back up , you can use what you learned the last 3 years to now make the tank of your dreams. I know its a real downer, sorry that you had to come back to that, but don't sell everything off until you've had a while to sit on it.

I have to see tree and chain saw every day.
But I do work for the forestry commission. Don't give up yet, take some time to think before you make any quick decissions. We will donate stuff to get everybody started again. My favorite thing about this hobby, except for catching stuff, is trying to find deal at the lfs and stocking my tank. I would love to start over with a new tank but at the same time I would hate to lose what I have. Give your self some time to grive and if you still feel the same then sell you stuff. Remember how fun it was when you just got into the hobby now you have that chance to do it again with more knowledge. I would start over again in a heart beat.

I feel your pain, I know im new to your little group here, I just found you guys yesterday. I was without power for 12 days, Lost everything, but after a couple of days with the skimmer working overtime my 150 is starting to clean up nice. I was like alot of you guys, had decided to just make a fish tank out of it until i want to the lfs and saw all the cool stuff I still wish I had.

Im going to be starting over full reef again ;)

BTW when/where do you guys meet, and how do you officially join?

This group is free for all, no joining needed, and watch the alabama reefkeepers board for meeting information (once a month usually), the locations are round-robin (different person hosts every month). We don't really have any official organization or officers, etc... just a group of local people with same interests :)
