We've been stalling abut replacing the batteries in the UPS, so we'll be stirring the reef tank with a paddle if the power goes out!

Color me paranoid, but I got a bad feeling about this one. The models keep moving it further west and further west. If it goes through the yucatan penisula and does not cross over Cuba, it will strengthen again. I think this thing smacking over Cuba would have been our best bet.. they're communist anyways right?
Melissa and I hit wally world earlier this afternoon and bought some batteries, etc. Home depot and wal-mart are pretty much sold out of D-type batteries.
We bought a couple of those battery powered aerators, etc.. but if this thing is going to come here as a cat 4 or 5, screw the tank I'm heading north. Cat 2-3 , lookout you'lll lose power, be inconvenienced from fallen limbs, trees, etc... Cat 4 or 5 , get the hell out.

This is not the way to start my first year of reef keeping out. Dang, we just got everything full and beautiful. Not to mention put a huge amount of $ out in such a short time to see it all BLOW AWAY!

I cannot really see leaving here for that though, i mean we faired worse with Frederick. I could be wrong, though. I did go to Wal Mart tonight, they had more batteries than the customers could buy up tonight. I bought about 30 D size batteries and every battery powered pump they had. I also picked up a power inverter, 700 watt. I figure i can run alot of maxijets off my car or truck, just crank it on occasion.

Fredrick was 130mph max substained winds when it made landfall. That is high category 3.

This is just what I've read.. it would strengthen when it hits the gulf because of the warm water in the gulf fueling it....
Figure it will weaken as it makes its way around Cuba, will "have to get it's shit together again", and lose some strength. But when it hits the gulf waters of 83-86 degrees, and Voila.. Instant bad mofo. It's what 155mph substained now?
Maybe I'm a little paranoid at the moment.. just don't want to see this again:

With the latest forecast, I'm not sure what we're going to do... the bad thing is that the "safe place" we have, is my mom/pop's underground house about 45 minutes away... GUARANTEED to survive, however, it's heavily wooded, so cars have a high chance of getting crushed heh. I dunno, just dunno... and if we leave, the reef tank will tank w/out power and some TLC.

I may have some of the rare white acros in a few days if you decide to buy some.
