I came home from work last Friday and the water in my reef tank was over 90 degrees(thats as high as my thermometer goes). I was wondering how long to wait to really say what all did or didnt make it coral wise. All the fish and inverts seem ok except the clown trigger i had just bought for when i get my aggressive set up but still have a few corals that look pretty bad. I changed 15 gallons of water out on Monday to try and help matters. any help would be appreciated.

What is causing the temperature spike? How are you cooling the water?

IMO, yes that's too high!
Do you have a heater? If so, take it out... don't just turn it off, take it out.
It looks like you need some air flow. You can add a small fan for a day or two to test it. My tank spikes pretty high without any air flow.
Maybe you can try taking off the glass cover (if you have one).

I leave all my doors open during the day when i'm not here and my tank stays at 79 degrees. I'm running my ac around 72 and I have 6 fans in my tank stand and canopy. I'm just running vhos and pc lights. When I do close up the stand durring the day my temp will rise to 83 degress.

I am sorry I wasnt clear enough. My air conditioning died friday while at work and that caused the temp to go up. Never have any trouble with the water temp. I was wanting to know how long should i wait to see if the corals start looking alive again.

Running power compact for lighting with no canopy also. water is always usually between 78 and 80.

It wouldn't take it long to heat up in this weather without AC.

What kinds of corals do you have? SPS would probably not live through it and it could take them up to a week to die. Any corals that may be found in shallow lagoons and most softies may survive.

The ones that still look the worst are a finger leather, hammer coral, doughnut coral, and a colt coral. My green star polyps, and branching bubble have come back pretty good. A frag off of a frog spawn i am still not sure of, it looks better at times and then not so good. All the mushrooms and candy coral really never showed any ill effects.
